Negative self-talk applies to a lot of us and is a habit difficult to kick out our system. Simply because we often are unaware of it. It’s so deeply rooted in us that we don’t hear it. Yet we say it, and, trust me, parts of us listens.

What do I mean by this?

We have a constant flow of thoughts going through our minds and these judgemental thoughts are part of it. Thoughts are just messages passing through, and, often times, aren't truths. They come from a bunch of internal systems we have based on our personality, experience, etc. If we don’t label them simply as thoughts, they become a reality in our minds.

Words have such a strong power over us, and constantly bringing ourselves down, be it in our minds, or saying it out loud, makes us eventually believe in it.

So how do we step out of it?

  1. Reflect on our negative self-talk habits. What’s something negative you constantly say to yourself? What’s the worst thing you ever said to yourself or about yourself? Replay in your head the conversations you have with yourself, intentionally looking for negative comments. This will train your mind to flag similar thoughts.
